Gardiner Cemetery, 137 Gardiner Cemetery Rd, Sequim, WA ??? Resting place of Medal of Honor Recipient Marvin Shields, U.S. Navy Seabee A solemn tribute will be held at the gravesite of Construction Mechanic 3rd Class Marvin Shields; the only U.S. Navy Seabee ever awarded the Medal of Honor. Although federal public affairs offices are currently unable to promote this event due to the government shutdown, military support remains strong. Service members, Seabees, and an honored guest speaker will be present. Organizers are hopeful that full ceremonial participation — including musician and chaplain support — will resume if federal operations reopen in time. This gathering is an opportunity to pay heartfelt respect to a true American hero and all who have served. Children are encouraged to attend and learn about local history and national service.
