Description

Presenter Ken Wiersema Saturday, April 26, 2025 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. ** (See Note) Rainshadow Hall at Dungeness River Nature Center Suggested donation: $5 ** Please Note: With spring come many events encouraging us to get outside, enjoy nature, and exercise! To accommodate these events at the River Center in late April and early May, we have moved our May Backyard Birding event to April 26th and scheduled it for early afternoon. On June 7th, we’ll return to our usual schedule of the first Saturday at 10:00 AM. Please mark your calendars for this change in date and time. ** Most of us enjoy the fun of seeing our local hummingbirds, robins, goldfinches, swallows, swans, and an occasional Bald Eagle. As we enjoy the sights and sounds of birds in our yards and community, we also encounter birds we are drawn to dislike. This program will explore a diverse group of birds many folks dislike, such as European Starlings, House Sparrows, gulls, Barred Owls, crows, cormorants, and vultures. Some of these dislikable birds are native to our state and North America, some are introduced. Many are here, attracted by human activity, whether deliberate or inadvertent. Please join us for this new program in our series and bring your thoughts on birds you look forward to finding each year in your yard, as well as those you’d prefer would go away. The program will feature photos and videos of local birds. We encourage attendee interactions—just don't forget to leave your bag of over-ripe tomatoes at home! Admission to Backyard Birding programs is free. However, we suggest a donation of $5.00 per person to support our ongoing education and bird conservation programs. For your good health as well as that of other attendees and our volunteer staff, please be aware of the latest COVID-19 and flu health precautions as recommended by Clallam County Public Health and the Jamestown S’Klallam Tribe.
