Who doesn’t love snow, sleet, wind, rain and then sunshine all before noon? If you’re new to the North Olympic Peninsula, you may have noticed that the weather here can be a bit of a challenge, especially if you are setting up a new garden. Join Clallam County Master Gardener Margery Whites on Saturday, June 7th from 10:30 a.m. - 12 p.m. at Woodcock Demonstration Garden, 2711 Woodcock Road in Sequim for the Digging Deeper Saturdays presentation “Gardening for Newcomers to the North Olympic Peninsula” and find out how you can make the most of our unique maritime climate. Margery is a retired professor who moved to the North Olympic Peninsula from Minnesota and faced many new gardening challenges. She has been a Master Gardener since 2016. Her presentation is oriented towards people who are new to the gardening and landscaping challenges of the North Olympic Peninsula. She will discuss choosing plants appropriate for your site’s particular microclimate, basic landscaping planning, solving problems related to wet winters and dry summers and how to locate tools and resources for more information. In addition to the scheduled educational presentation, a team of Clallam County Master Gardeners will be available at the Woodcock Demonstration Garden from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on June 7th to answer all gardening questions. Digging Deeper attendees are encouraged to bring samples of garden problems or pests for diagnosis by Master Gardeners who can recommend control measures. “Gardening for Newcomers to the North Olympic Peninsula” is part of the Digging Deeper Saturdays educational series which is free and open to the public. This presentation will be held in-person, outdoors at the Master Gardener Woodcock Demonstration Garden. Presentations cover basic gardening topics relevant to many home gardeners and are scheduled for 90 minutes to allow for demonstrations and questions from viewers. Attendees are encouraged to check the Clallam County Master Gardener online calendar for updates about the location of the talk at https://extension.wsu.edu/clallam/master-gardener-calendar/.
