Description

Presented by Steve Hampton, PhD Dungeness River Nature Center, Rainshadow Hall, No charge to attend. Dr. Steve Hampton has been birding since he was seven years old. He worked for California Department of Fish & Wildlife for 25 years, where he was involved in oil spill response, natural resource damage assessment, seabird restoration, and partnerships with Native communities. Steve currently serves as conservation chair and Christmas Bird Count Compiler for Admiralty Audubon in Port Townsend. He combines his love of birds with a PhD in resource economics to analyze bird data. Steve recently served on the American Ornithological Society's Ad-hoc Committee on English Bird Names. His article in the December 2022 issue of Birding summarized the recent research on birds and climate change. In this talk, Steve will discuss the ecological changes that are already happening, with a special focus on the Pacific Northwest and Olympic Peninsula. (Note: the presentation will be preceded by a brief OPAS business meeting.)
